Umaibo is a long time favorite in Japan, featuring the cute mascot Umaemon. These long- cylindrical puffed corn snacks come in many flavors and the name Umaibo literally means “delicious stick” in Japanese. They are made by Yaokin, who primarily make cheap snacks aimed towards kids or folks on the go.

These Umaibo are flavored like Corn Potage, a Japanese soup made from sweet-corn.

Corn potage, originally a French dish, was adapted by the Japanese and is still popular in modern day Japan ever since. I just had corn potage on mistake- the Japanese drink dispensers have heated drinks such as coffee, ginger-ale, and soups! The creamy flavour was very nostalgic of corn on the cob during hot summer evenings and corn pops on cool summer mornings. Now I can get my corn fix whenever and wherever! Very much like the original corn potage soup from Japan in a yummy crunchy snack!
